Visiting Tips

Coming to Ferme Caussenarde d'Autreviens is like going back to the past, to a time when the pace and priorities were not the same as today. To better immerse yourself in this Caussenarde atmosphere and visit our tourist site in the best conditions, we recommend:

1 – take the time.

The independent visit allows you to take advantage of all the time you need to visit, discover, experience, learn... Let's cultivate the Essential, slowly, gently, enjoying every moment!

2 – avoid high heels and bring a cap or hat (or rain gear depending on the weather and season)

A third of the visit to the Ferme Caussenarde d’Autreviens is outdoors. It is therefore better to be equipped accordingly. After the visit, you are entitled to a tasting/reduction at the Fromagerie le Fédou at the entrance to the Hameau de Hyelzas. It's also better to be well equipped to get there on foot and not take the car for such a short journey!

3 – to think of a circuit for the day.

The Causse Méjean is large, authentic and preserved spaces as well as a history or rather stories to discover:

- The history of caving on the MéjeanAven Armand (from the end of March to the beginning of November)

- The history of the milling on the Méjean in Borie mill (from the beginning of April to the beginning of November)

- The history of the preservation of the Przejwalski Horses on the Méjean in Villaret (all year round)

- And of course the story of peasant life in Méjean at the Ferme Caussenarde d'Autreviens

All these sites are located in our commune of Hures-La Parade. Don’t hesitate to spot them on a map to build a day of discovery of our Causse…

4 – to think “local products”.

Our hamlet of Hyelzas produces some very good things not to be missed if you have a sweet tooth:

- There Fromagerie le Fédou makes excellent sheep's milk cheeses that exude the terroir (All year round, outside opening hours, self-service is at your disposal).

- There Armand and Marie Farm will amaze you with its milk ice creams, but also with the meat from its Angus cows (all year round, self-service outside opening hours).

- There Pastour'elle Farm will delight you with its free-range eggs, cold meats and cooked mutton dishes (all year round. Here too, self-service will allow you to go there at any time).

Other places in our town of Hures-la Parade will provide you with:

- Duck charcuterie, honey and jam at the Ferme du Gaec de Caouné in Nivoliers.

- Honey at Ferme Carrière in Drigas.

- Cereal-based flours produced on the Causse Méjean at the Moulin de la Borie.

5 – to think “unusual”.

Our hamlet of Hyelzas is also home to people who work in surprising ways:

- Alix opens its doors to pottery Keeha Ceramics of beginning of June to end of September (0768898944).

- Naturoline is a haven of well-being in which Caroline, naturopath, will receive you for a massage, an internship or a naturopathy consultation all year round (0786815928).

Elsewhere on the Méjean, also discover the unusual:

- HAS Sophie's Wood Workshop, cutler in Chaldas who will show you her workshop by appointment and show you her deer antler knife handles (0685426722).

3 – for your visit with baby

We invite you to provide a baby carrier. If this were not the case, we would lend you one for the duration of the visit. We can also lend you a changing mat and heat your child's food.

4 – to avoid crowds

We advise you to prefer Saturdays and Sundays, which are generally the quietest days. During the week, avoid the 1:30 p.m./3:30 p.m. time slot.

In July and August, always prefer to book your visit, especially on days when the weather is gloomy. If you have a partner rate, the promo code to benefit from it when booking online is mentioned on your pass (pass'jaune of essential sites, pass'lozère notebook). You will need to present your pass with your e-ticket when you arrive at the site.
